Private Aircraft:  Regular Instruction Rates apply at all times to training in any non 1World Aero & Flight Club airplane, unless the client pays 50% of current monthly dues.

Preferred payment method is by check.

What Standards are Used for Billing ?

The airplane is billed by Hobbs hour which means that time is counted from engine start to engine stop.  The instruction is charged by block time, which counts the time reserved with the instructor on the schedule.  If the Instructor is late, the time begins when the CFI arrives to begin the lesson, until the end of the reserved time.  If the student is physically late, or is not prepared at arrival, block time still begins  at the scheduled start time.   Block time includes that time the instructor waits for a client to file a flight plan and get a weather update, preflight the airplane, and secure it after flight.  Block time also includes debriefing by the instructor, logbook signatures and associated paperwork, as well as finalization of  flight recordings.   Phone consultations and other administrative support such as materials development, scheduling, and maintenance coordination are indirectly factored into the hourly rate.

Block time billing is most literally enforced for early morning lessons, evening lessons, and Sunday make up lessons.  However during traditional 9 to 5 business hours Monday through Saturday, the following logic is generally applied to billing of Instruction time:

Ground Lesson: From lesson start to lesson stop.
Closed circuit Pattern Work:  2 hours for a flight rounding  to 1 hour.  2.5 if rounds to 1.5  hours.   Thereafter as flight time plus 1 hour.
Airwork & Instrument Approaches:  2.5 hours if  flight rounds to 1.5.   3 hours if rounds to 2 hours flight.  Thereafter as flight time plus 1 hour.
Cross Country: Flight Time plus 1 hour.
Block time will be literally applied when a client's lack of preparation causes significant delays.

How Do Schools and Clubs Determine Their Rental Rates?

Easy come, easy go.  Below is a basic break down of operating costs on common commercially operated trainers such as the Tobago, Skyhawk, and Archer.  School airplanes have to fly an un-guaranteed  minimum number of hours per month to reach their break even point.  This break even number generally varies between 40 and 60 hours, depending mostly on maintenance expenses.

Maintenance:   Roughly 25 hours of labor per 125 hours of billed hobbs time x $60 labor rate.   $10.00 to $15.00 per hour.
Engine Reserve:  With 2000 hour TBO  $8.00 to $10.00 per hour
Propellor Reserve: with 2000 hour TBO  $1.25 to $2.00 per hour
Parts:  Roughly $500 per 125 hobbs hours.  $4.00 to $500 per hour
Fuel:  8 - 11 Gallons Per Hour at close to $3.75 to $4.50 per gallon.  $30 to $50 per hour
 Oil:   5.00 per 4 to 9 hours.  $.55 to $1.25 per hour
Insurance:     $550 - 700 per month dependant on carrier, year make, and model.  $10 to $20 per hour
 Tie down:    $75 to 150 a month  $1.5 to $4.50 per hour
Office Supplies, Phone lines, Office Lease, Advertisement,  Employee Insurance, Bank Loans, Employee Wages.  Variable.
